CANADA ROAD TRIP - statistics

I have a habit of keeping random statistics. Things like how much water I drink a day and how many cigarettes I smoke. A lot of the time, these statistics really mean nothing. 


It’s been almost two months since I said goodbye to the van, and goodbye to Canada. Looking back at pictures, it made me curious about some of the smaller details on our trip. These random stats are just a compilation of some of the things that I kept track of….

Number of days on the road: 60

Number of days sleeping in a regular bed: 12


Total kilometres driven: 13468 km

Most kilometres driven in one day: 890 km, July 25th, from Steveville, Alberta to Russel, Manitoba

Days with no driving: 11


Total litres of gas consumed: 1254.366 L

Total cost of gas: $1407.16

Average cost of gas a day: $23.45

Cost of van build: $1300


Total cost of food: $1572.41

Average cost of food per day: $26.21 (way over our original budget of $10 per day, but this also includes a lot more eating out than we anticipated)


Total cost of campsites and parking: $494.00 (includes the Discovery Pass, which covered admission for all National Parks)

Total cost of ferries: $410.40

- Moose in jasper, banff, and forillon national park in quebec

Best Single Restaurant dish:

Hiro: Foie gras poutine at Au Pied De Cochon or Poutine au Crevette at Casse Croute du Quai, both in Quebec. (more about these in the quebec blogs)

Annika: Feta, honey, and peach dish at Foxy, served with house made pita. 


Best Camping Spot:

Hiro: Elk bay on Vancouver Island or Keys Lake outside Kenora (more on elk bay here)

Annika: Same answer.

BC

Hiro: Seeing a bunch of family and friends

Annika: Whale watching in Tofino or hiking Mt. Rohr. (mt. rohr pics in this blog)


Alberta

Hiro: exploring jasper

Annika: anything in Western Alberta, the wildlife, glaciers, etc. 


Saskatchewan

Hiro: …..

Annika: salt lakes. 


Manitoba

Hiro: hanging out with Isaac and his family (our visit to Golden Fried)

Annika: Seeing the moose at Riding Mountain Provincial Park. 


Ontario

Hiro: Sandy beach, having a fire till late at night

Annika: Bruce Peninsula. 


Quebec

Hiro: Casse-croute du quai, sitting on a picnic table eating poutine au crevette and guedille au crevette. Also, watching Annika eat her first corn dog
